Dottie Burman was a singer, songwriter, entertainer and motivational speaker who brought the excitement of the New York theatrical scene to meetings and special events for organizations. She performed her unique programs with a musical message, making her points with witty original songs and stories.

While teaching English at Stuvesant High School, Dottie was also pursuing a second career as a singer and songwriter, performing as a folk singer and then with her own Bluegrass group, The Canarsie Five. Eventually, she followed her own dreams, leaving teaching to go into show business full time. She wrote, produced and performed her one-woman show, Five Shows a Day, about anxieties and joys of this career transition and was the author of two other full length musicals.

She was the founder, president and CEO of Burtley Productions and a career coach for performers with a specialty in marketing and publicity.

During the 1998-1999 season Dottie completed critically acclaimed runs of two shows at on't Tell Mama Cabaret Theater: Follow Your Dreams and I'm in Love with My Computer: the Songs of Dottie Burman. The latter featured songs from her first CD, I'm In Love With My Computer which was selected as one of the Best Cabaret CD's of the year by Barbara and Scott Siegel of InTheater Magazine.

Dottie's song "One Step Ahead" was awarded the Leonardo da Vinci Award as Outstanding Country Song of the Year by the Beaux Arts Society which also named her to its list of Distinguished Artists.

Her song Have a Nice Day won the "I Can't Get You Out of My Head Award" from Cabaret Hotline Online.

In 2005, she launched An Evening With Dottie Burman which brought her a MAC Award nomination for Best Musical Comedy Performer. The show featured songs from her most recent CD "When The Palm Trees Grow in Central Park." The title song from this album received second prize in the International Unisong Contest in the category of Social/Political songs from over 4,500 entries.

Dottie performed many of the songs from her CDs at performances at the New York Sheet Music Society, the MAC/ASCAP Songwriters Showcase and the Triad. She appeared at benefits for TRU and TOPA, and in the C'est Comedy Holiday Showcase and the Poole Party.

She was an active member of the National Speakers Association, singing her songs at their conferences in Atlanta, Washington, D.C. and Phoenix and served on the board of the association's New York Tristate Chapter.

She was also a member of ASCAP, The New York Sheet Music Society, The Dramatists Guild, the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs (MAC) and BNI, Business Network International.
